Regulation of the Medical and Dental Practice in Zimbabwe has been in existence since 1897 under the administration of the Colony of Southern Rhodesia.
The unbundling of the Health Professions Council (HPC) in December 2001 gave rise to the establishment of eight successor Councils in 2001 which include the Medical and Dental Practitioners Council of Zimbabwe (MDPCZ). MDPCZ opened its doors to the profession on 24 April 2001
In terms of Section 30 of the Health Professions Act (Chapter 27:19), the Medical and Dental Practitioners Council is mandated inter-alia to REGISTER, EDUCATE and DISCIPLINE the medical and dental professions.
